Ferre Institute provides professional education to medical providers, counselors, and other human services personnel. Individual counseling and education are also provided to patients of all ages in the Genetic Counseling, Family Building, and Prenatal Risk Programs.

Mission statement
Ferre Institute is a non-profit organization devoted to quality services in genetics and reproductive health.

History
Ferre Institute, Inc. was created in Utica, NY in 1974 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and expansion of infertility services, which were largely unavailable at the time. In 1982, Ferre expanded its mission by
adding a groundbreaking community genetics program, based in Binghamton, New York. Family building services such as adoption education were added in the 1990's. In 2002, a preexisting teratogen information service, the Pregnancy Risk Network, merged with Ferre adding another dimension to our mission of providing the most current and balanced medical information to clients facing complex medical decisions.

Another New Website!

We are pleased to announce the completion of our new website www.HeartGenes.org.

Heart and Genes is a program of Ferre Institute, specializing in understanding the role of genetics in cardiovascular disease. Our genetic counselors meet with individuals and families to discuss personal, family history, and environmental factors that may place them at risk for cardiovascular disease. We also discuss genetic testing options if available, and if so, we help select the correct gene for testing. Our counselors provide support to families at risk for heart disease, advocate for services, and refer families to local and national resources and support groups when appropriate. We serve families in upstate New York . We hope you find our website helpful as you learn more about family history, genetics, and risk for heart disease.
